CD runs but no sound due to incorrect sound card settings
Cause:
The sound card settings are not correct.
Solution:
Correct the sound card settings.
CAUTION: A qualified computer technician should perform the installation, diagnostic or maintenance tasks below.
1) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
2) Select 'Settings' and select 'Control Panel'. (The 'Control Panel' window appears.)
3) Double-click the 'System' icon. (The 'System Properties' dialog box appears.)
4) Click the 'Device Manager' tab.
5) Select the 'View devices by type' radio button.
6) Double-click on 'Sound, video and game controllers' in the 'View devices by type' list box.
7) Select the sound card and click 'Properties'.
8) Click the 'Driver' tab and confirm that the correct driver is chosen.
9) Click the 'Resources' tab and confirm that the 'Interrupt Request' in the 'Resource settings' list box is correct.
10) Check the 'Conflicting device list' box for conflicts. If conflicts exist, do the following:
NOTE: The 'Conflicting device list' area will display what resource is in conflict and what device is causing the conflict.
a) Click 'OK' to close the floppy drive controller 'Properties' dialog box.
b) Double-click on the device type of the device causing the conflict, select the device, and click 'Properties'. (The 'Properties' dialog box of the device causing the conflict will appear.)

c) Click the 'Resources' tab, and select the 'Interrupt Request' in the 'Resource settings' list box.
d) If the 'Use automatic settings' check box is selected, clear it.
e) Click 'Change Setting...'. (The 'Edit Interrupt Request' dialog box appears.)
NOTE: If the 'No Modifications Allowed' message box appears, this resource cannot be changed.

f) Select the interrupt request (IRQ) from the 'Value' list box.

NOTE: If the device is not plug and play, you will have to set the resources using hardware jumpers before the resource value can be changed.
g) Click 'OK' to select a new IRQ.
h) Click 'OK' again. (The 'System Settings Change' dialog box appears.)
i) Click 'Yes' to restart the computer.
